Ron Paul Super PAC Unveils Poll Watching Mobile Application

Ron Paul Super PAC Unveils Poll Watching Mobile Application

Revolution PAC’s “PollWatcher 1.0″ poll watching app

Chicago, IL (PRWEB) February 20, 2012

In the face of mounting evidence of voter suppression and election fraud, Revolution PAC is formally launching a groundbreaking exit polling initiative in time for the February 28 Republican presidential primaries in Arizona and Michigan. The first-of-its-kind grassroots effort also will include the deployment of a private-label smartphone application.

The application – codenamed “PollWatcher 1.0” – is currently only available for Google’s Android operating system and was built from the ground up with an easy-to-use interface. PollWatcher 1.0 will allow Revolution PAC’s boots on the ground to conduct an efficient exit polling initiative as a means to crosscheck the accuracy of state GOP parties’ vote totals, which were problematic in Iowa, Nevada and Maine.

“This tool enables the grassroots revolution to compete with the establishment media like never before,” explains Gary Franchi, Revolution PAC chair. “Their monopoly stranglehold on election results is finally broken.”

In addition, the app features access to a “reporter’s toolbox,” which provides one-click audio/video recording as well as the ability to post to Facebook or Twitter in real time. The application will be distributed to qualified volunteers for live field beta testing prior to the upcoming primaries.

Volunteers are being asked to join the effort at http://RevolutionPAC.com/Exit-Polling.

Revolution PAC will broadcast the results in real time as part of its “Boycott the Mainstream Media” initiative, which will be streamed live throughout the day during the Arizona and Michigan primaries.

Revolution PAC is supporting U.S. Rep. Ron Paul’s bid for the Republican presidential nomination and his consistent, constitutional message with targeted TV advertising, direct mail campaigns, vote-watching initiatives and innovative Web promotions complemented by billboards and radio ads in key primary states. Unlimited donations by individuals, businesses and organizations are being accepted by Revolution PAC to support that effort.

“Skin Cancer Doctors” Provides Dermatologist Authored Information to Skin Cancer Patients and Their Families

“Skin Cancer Doctors” Provides Dermatologist Authored Information to Skin Cancer Patients and Their Families

Berkeley, CA (PRWEB) May 12, 2009

Skin Cancer Doctors provides helpful information about actinic keratoses (AKs), basal cell carcinoma (BCC), squamous cell carcinoma (SCC), and melanoma to skin cancer patients from the source they trust most – dermatologists.

Launched in May in honor of National Skin Cancer Awareness Month, Skin Cancer Doctors is committed to providing up to date information about skin cancer prevention and treatment options directly from skin care experts.

The Skin Cancer Doctors online community is part of the FromYourDoctor patient education service from Vivacare. The FromYourDoctor service enables physicians to easily create their own customizable health information resource for their medical practice, including a Patient Education Library with patient handouts and clinical images, and a Patient eNewsletter.

Physicians use the service to reinforce key clinical messages that may be forgotten during office appointments. The Skin Cancer Doctors website highlights those dermatologists that use the FromYourDoctor service who have written particularly helpful information for their patients regarding skin cancer.

Dr. Jeffrey Ellis, M.D., Director of Dermatological Surgery at North Shore/ Long island Jewish Hospital and in private practice at Belaray Dermatology in Plainview, NY uses the FromYourDoctor service as a tool to publish information about actinic keratoses (AKs), a common precancerous skin condition.

“Skin Cancer Doctor’s goal is to help dermatologists help their patients,” says Mark Becker, M.D., founder of Vivacare. “We are pleased to be helping dermatologists get the word out regarding the risks of skin cancer, skin cancer treatment options, and the importance of skin cancer prevention,” said Dr. Becker.

People seeking dermatologists in their area who are qualified to diagnose and treat skin cancer may wish to refer to Vivacare’s Find a Dermatologist resource.

About Skin Cancer

Skin cancer occurs when skin cells start growing abnormally, causing cancerous growths. The three main types of skin cancer are basal cell carcinoma (BCC), squamous cell carcinoma (SCC), and melanoma. Melanoma is the least common but most dangerous form of skin cancer. Almost all skin cancers start as a small, low-risk lesions, but can grow and become high-risk lesions if left untreated. There is a chance of a complete cure when skin cancer is detected before it has spread to surrounding tissues. Recommended treatment options depend primarily on the type, size and location of the skin cancer, but may include topical medications, such as Aldara and 5-FU, or dermatologic procedures such as cryotherapy or Mohs Surgery.

ANAD and BEDA Oppose the Children’s Healthcare of Atlanta AD -”Stop Sugarcoating” as a Shaming and Fear Based Campaign

ANAD and BEDA Oppose the Children’s Healthcare of Atlanta AD -”Stop Sugarcoating” as a Shaming and Fear Based Campaign

Chicago, Illinois (PRWEB) February 03, 2012

The National Association of Anorexia Nervosa and Associated Disorders (ANAD) and the Binge Eating Disorder Association (BEDA) appeal to the Children’s Healthcare of Atlanta (CHOA) to discontinue their fear and shame-based advertisements objectifying children. Campaigns that focus on overall wellness, not weight shaming, should be the goal.

The CHOA released a new ad-campaign, known as Stop Sugarcoating, utilizing negative attention and shaming to address childhood obesity. Recently, concern has risen in the state of Georgia, which is ranked the second highest prevalence of childhood obesity in the country, prompting the development of the campaign.

Chevese Turner, Executive Director of BEDA, states, “This ad campaign has the potential to inflict harm through the message it sends. The creators of the campaign quite obviously do not understand the psychological impact this has for individuals of size, including children. CHOA clearly believes this approach will work, despite a growing number of professionals and experts in both the obesity and eating disorders field who disagree because of the growing evidence that shaming and stigmatizing actually lead to weight gain over time. We have received close to 1,000 signatures, within a week’s time, on our petition to end this campaign; the public and many professional physical and mental health providers have joined us to let CHOA know that this approach is dangerous and should be discontinued immediately.”

Laura Discipio, Executive Director of ANAD, says, “Research has shown that children as young as five years old already have been conditioned to fear being fat. CHOA continues to perpetuate this fear by using shaming and bullying tactics targeted at children who are of larger size. But unfortunately, children who are of normal or low weight can also be negatively affected. This Ad-campaign has the potential of doing more harm than good. Shaming our children should not be tolerated! Feeling good about yourself increases the likelihood that you will take good care of your body and decreases the likelihood of disordered eating. Instead of shaming our children, let’s help them feel good about themselves and provide all children an opportunity to engage in healthy lifestyles so they can develop healthy attitudes and behaviors and healthy bodies.”

Discipio adds, “Chevese and I, as well as our expert boards and scientific committees, welcome an open conversation with the developers of this ad campaign and future weight-related campaigns to discuss effective and healthy ways to address these important issues. We must be cognizant of the fact that many of the obesity efforts underway in this country are worrisome-at-best and can lead to eating disorders, which have the highest mortality rate of any psychiatric illness and have realized a significant rise in prevalence over recent years.”

The National Association of Anorexia Nervosa and Associated Disorders, Inc. (ANAD) is a non-profit (501 c 3) corporation that seeks to prevent and alleviate the problems of eating disorders, especially including anorexia nervosa, bulimia nervosa and binge eating disorder. ANAD advocates for the development of healthy attitudes, bodies, and behaviors. ANAD promotes eating disorder awareness, prevention and recovery through supporting, educating, and connecting individuals, families and professionals.

The Binge Eating Disorder Association (BEDA) was founded to help those who have binge eating disorder, their friends and family, and those who treat the disorder. BEDA provides individuals who suffer from binge eating disorder with the recognition and resources they deserve to begin a safe journey toward a healthy recovery. BEDA also serves as a resource for treatment providers to prevent, detect, diagnose, and treat the disorder. By establishing strong connections among members and sister organizations, BEDA’s goal is to give everyone access to the tools they need to live with, treat, and, ultimately, prevent the disorder.

A Cervical Cancer Screening Month Resolution

A Cervical Cancer Screening Month Resolution

Baltimore, MD (Vocus/PRWEB) January 04, 2011

Attention all women! You may want to consider scheduling a pap smear as part of your New Year’s resolutions! January is Cervical Cancer Screening Month. A pap smear can find abnormal cells that may indicate cervical cancer. Screening for cervical cancer using the pap test has decreased the number of new cases of cervical cancer and the number of deaths due to cervical cancer since 1950.

The VA Maryland Health Care System encourages all women Veterans enrolled for VA health care to get tested for cervical cancer. Women aged 21 to 65, as well as those at high risk, are candidates for a cervical pap smear screening every one to three years. Detecting cervical cancer in its earliest stages greatly improves survival rates. More than 90 percent of women can survive cervical cancer when it is localized and caught early. Human papillomavirus (HPV) infection is the major risk factor for development of cervical cancer.

Other risk factors for cervical cancer include:

Giving birth to many children.
Having many sexual partners.
Having first sexual intercourse at a young age.
Smoking cigarettes.
Using oral contraceptives (“the Pill”).
Having a weakened immune system.
All women are at risk for cervical cancer, but it occurs most often in women over age 30.

Here are some ways to reduce cervical cancer risk:

Limit the number of sexual partners and use condoms or diaphragms every time you have sex.
Don’t smoke.
Get regular pap smears to detect any precancerous cells.
If you are under 26, consider the HPV vaccination.

The good news:

It is the easiest gynecological cancer to prevent with regular screening tests and follow up.
It is highly treatable when found early.

Early detection can be lifesaving. For more information on cervical cancer or to schedule a pap smear, Veterans should contact the Women Veterans Clinic at 1-800-463-6295, extension 5090 or 5094. At the VA Maryland Health Care System’s Women’s Clinic, comprehensive primary, mental health and specialty health care services are available.

Editor’s Note: Dr. Catherine A. Staropoli, FACP, chief of Women’s Health for the VA Maryland Health Care System, is available as a subject matter expert on cervical cancer. Zelda McCormick, the Women’s Health program manager, can speak about issues pertaining to the Women Veterans Health program. For more information or to speak with either Dr. Staropoli, or Ms. McCormick, please contact Rosalia Scalia, Public & Community Relations, VA Maryland Health Care System, at (410) 605-7464, or via e-mail at rosalia(dot)scalia(at)va(dot)gov.

The VA Maryland Health Care System (VAMHCS) provides a broad spectrum of medical, surgical, rehabilitative, mental health and outpatient care to veterans at two medical centers, one rehabilitation & extended care center and five outpatient clinics located throughout the state. More than 52,000 veterans from various generations receive care from VAMHCS annually. Nationally recognized for its state-of-the-art technology and quality patient care, VAMHCS is proud of its reputation as a leader in veterans’ health care, research and education. It costs nothing for Veterans to enroll for health care with the VA Maryland Health Care System and it could be one of the more important things a Veteran can do. For information about VA health care eligibility and enrollment or how to apply for a VA medical care hardship to avoid future copayments for VA health care, interested Veterans are urged to call the Enrollment Center for the VA Maryland Health Care System, Monday through Friday, from 8 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. at 1-800-463-6295, ext. 7324 or visit http://www.maryland.va.gov.
